What Call Types are

Last updated: June 17, 2026

In one sentence

A Call Type is a label for a kind of call — like "Nutrition Consultation" or "Discovery Call" — that tells Call-E what to pay attention to when it writes your Call Notes, Call Guidance, and Scorecard.

Why it exists

You don't run every call the same way. A new-client intake, a weekly check-in, and a sales discovery call all need different things from the AI. Call Types let an admin set up each kind of call once, then every appointment of that kind gets Call Notes written to fit.

A Call Type can include guidance for:

  • Call Notes — what to summarize and how to structure it. Call Notes are always generated when a transcript is ready.
  • Call Guidance — pre-call talking points. Generated only when you ask for it on an appointment.
  • Scorecard — post-call evaluation. Only appears when the admin has added Scorecard instructions for that Call Type.

How the Call Type gets picked

When you schedule or record an appointment, Call-E tries to figure out the Call Type for you:

  • If your organization only has one Call Type, that one is used.
  • If the meeting is part of a recurring series and the earlier sessions all use the same Call Type, Call-E uses that one.
  • Otherwise Call-E looks at the meeting title and your recent labeled appointments and makes its best guess.
  • If none of that works, your organization's default Call Type is used.

When Call-E picked the Call Type for you, you'll see a small purple sparkle next to it on the appointment. You can always change it — click the pencil icon next to the Call Type and choose a different one.

If an appointment has no Call Type and no default is set, Call-E can't generate Call Notes until someone picks one.

What changes when the Call Type changes

Changing a Call Type — or changing the instructions inside one — only affects future generations. Call Notes, Call Guidance, and Scorecards that already exist stay as they are.

If you want an existing appointment's Call Notes to reflect a new Call Type, open the appointment and click Regenerate with current call type on the Call Notes card.

Who manages Call Types

Organization Owners and Admins create and edit Call Types. Everyone else on the team sees them in the Call Type picker on appointments and on the sidebar under Call Types, but only admins can change the instructions.
