Call Mode opened a Zoom tab instead of starting inside Call-E
Last updated: June 17, 2026
What happened
You clicked to start a call inside Call-E, saw a message, and Zoom opened in a new browser tab instead of appearing inside the app. This is expected — Call-E opened the meeting for you automatically so you don't miss the call.
Why it happens
Call Mode — the in-app Zoom experience — works on meetings hosted on the same Zoom account that Call-E uses. When your appointment uses a Zoom meeting hosted on a different account, Call-E checks whether it can still join that meeting inside the app. If it can't, it opens the regular Zoom link in a new tab so you can join right away without any extra steps.
What the message means
You may see one of these messages:
-
"Cross-account Call Mode requires a Pro Zoom plan — opening Zoom in a new tab instead." Your Zoom account is on a Basic (free) plan. Upgrading to a Pro plan would allow Call-E to join this type of meeting inside the app. For now, Zoom has already opened in the new tab — just continue your call there.
-
"Cross-account Call Mode requires the meeting host to be on a Pro Zoom plan — opening Zoom in a new tab instead." The person who created the Zoom meeting is on a Basic plan. This isn't something you can change from your side. Just continue in the Zoom tab that opened.
-
"This Zoom meeting requires registration, so Call-E can't join it inside the app. Use Open Zoom for this appointment, or create a new appointment with a new Zoom meeting." The Zoom meeting has registration turned on, which prevents Call-E from joining inside the app. You can use the Open Zoom button on the appointment, or schedule a new appointment with a fresh Zoom meeting to avoid this.
What to do now
Just continue the call in the Zoom tab that opened. Call-E opened it for you automatically — no extra clicks needed.
After the call ends, Call-E still processes the appointment normally. If your Zoom account supports cloud recording and the meeting was recorded, Call Notes and a Call Scorecard appear in the appointment a few minutes after the call ends.
If no Zoom tab opened
If you saw the message but no new tab appeared, your browser may have blocked the popup.
- Look for a blocked-popup notice in your browser's address bar and allow popups for Call-E.
- Then click Open Zoom on the appointment to open the meeting yourself.
